"Would You Rather" Wednesday

**Looking for my Query BlogFest Entry?**

Now, I've never previously been a big fan of locking myself into a blog feature for any particular day of the week. But now I want one. Just one day every week where I know what I'm going to post without having to wrack my brain in advance. (Not that I do a tremendous amount of brain wracking now, but whatever)

I also want to know a little more about the kind of people I chat with in this here blogosphere.

So, from here on out I dub every Hump Day as "Would You Rather" Wednesday.

The premise is simple, I ask a "Would you rather A or B?" question, put in my two cents & then let everyone answer for themselves.

Sometimes the questions will be writing related, sometimes just random wonderings on my part.

So without further ado, let's get down to this week's edition:

Would you rather write a handful of best-sellers, makes millions and eventually move on to other pursuits while still writing the occasional novel OR have steady, moderate sales & recognition over a long span and spend the rest of your life as a full-time writer?

My answer: I'll never turn down millions of dollars and phenomenal success, but personally, I think I'd choose the moderate sales over the long haul. I've already accepted that my chances of getting rich via this profession are pretty darn slim. But if I ever got to a point where I could sell enough to be able to comfortably support myself as a full-time writer...that would be ideal for me. Lot less stress than the writing rock stars put up with too!

Hmmm. Would I rather be JK Rowling or Sarah Dessen? I'm sure there's going to be people who gasp and wonder what the hell am I thinking, but I'm going with Sarah Dessen. People love her books, but she isn't stuck with the same dilemma as with JK Rowling. What if JK Rowling next series doesn't live up to the expectations of HP. I loved Twilight, but I'm not sure if I'd buy Stephanie Meyer's next YA book. But it's guaranteed that I'll buy Sarah Dessen's next one.

And I know I'll buy Richelle Mead's book for the next series, but that's because we believe Adrian's going to be in it. ;)

Stina, please. We'd buy Richelle's next series even if we didn't believe Adrian was going to be in it! lol

Sounds like a fun feature. :) This is a hard question. Turn down being JK? But I suppose in reality, I like my privacy, so I'll take the moderate life, too. Fame isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

Definitely B. I think. I love this idea!

Ohh...I like this idea. And great question.

I would rather have a "steady, moderate sales & recognition over a long span and spend the rest of [my] life as a full-time writer."

The whole reason I am pursuing this career path is because I want to write. It's what fulfills me. Money, fame, and power will never fill that gap.

I agree with your choice. I don't want to be a "one-hit wonder." I want to write and keep writing (and have people keep reading, hopefully).

A! And you can tell me all about your career on my yacht after one of my illustrious signings!

I want to be a writer full time. Both seem to allow for that so I'd be on the fense. I think celebrity and money can get old. And I have that ole' irish catholic guilt complex about having too much.

I choose option B. Good question, though! I like this Would You Rather idea. :D

I'm with B. A nice, steady career would be ideal.

Love this idea, wish I'd thought of it. I'd rather have option B. It's seems like it would be less stressful than option A not to mention it would be easier to stay in touch with your fan base and even your kids. Writing full time with a steady income would be the dream come true for me.

I actually love to have option B. I'd rather be able to write long-term with moderate sales than have a huge hit and have people eternally disappointed with what I come out with after because it isn't the same as what they fell in love with first. (I'm thinking of the utter fail of The Host here - I know SO many people who returned it to the store angry as crap!)
