Would You Rather Wednesday -- The End of Epic Love

It's been a few weeks since we've had a Would You Rather Wednesday . . . so, of course, I'm going with what feels like a toughie question. And before you complain about the difficult choices of some of these questions -- remember, we're writers. Drama and heartache, it's what we do.

So, without further ado:

If your love-life were to be patterned after one of the long-standing, heartbreaking, bittersweet tropes, would you rather it be like . . . .

A)  THE NOTEBOOK:  After a few struggles to find your way to each other, you and the love of your life live happily with one another . . . until fate cruelly robs you of truly being able to spend your twilight years together.

OR

B)  LETTERS TO JULIET:  You love hard & passionately for a short time, and then circumstance (or poor choices) send you on your separate paths through life . . . but in your golden years you're reunited and get to spend whatever time you have left in the arms of "one that got away".

I'm definitely going to have to think on my answer for a while!

Happy Hump Day!!

Man-o-man you don't come up with easy questions. I'm not sure which one I'd go with.

#2 absolutely.

Absolutely number 2. I had to watch my grandparents live through number 1, and I don't think I'd be able to handle it.

I'd go with #1. Who wants to wait until you're old to find love? I mean then you can't hardly have sex without needing Viagara and you have to worry about breaking a hip or having a heart attack.

Of course I wouldn't sit around in some nursing home anyway; I'd just use a pillow or make a call to Jack Kevorkian.

Ooooh--hard choices. I loved Notebook, and the thrill she felt for a short time when she remembered. But Letters to Juliet...also good.
I will go with #1--simply because it shows that loves lasts, even through the days when there is no reciprocation.

Definitely #1, I'd rather have a life together and be parted at the end than spend a lifetime wondering 'what if?' only to find each other when it's almost too late.

#2, def. don't want me or my wife fading into dementia.

I had to think about it a lot. But I'd choose number one. I'd rather live on with a lifetime of memories.

B. A life of meandering with a good end beats watching someone slide into dementia any day.

A! I'd rather spend my youth and most of the rest of my life with someone, then only find them when we're both old. The B scenario could experience dementia too, and then you've wasted all that time in your earlier years for nothing.

Letters to Juliet. Definitely. You get to experience the newness of love more than once!

Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh. I guess the Notebook. I want to spend the best years together.

Now that is an interesting one. I guess for me the first scenario would be the best. Having your soulmate with you throughout life must be a very nurturing experience. However, if you are quite independent and confident then the second scenario would be a rewarding end to an interesting life :O)

Ouch! That's a hard choice. I think I would probably choose A, because life has no guarantees and would prefer to spend my prime years with my love.

I'd got with #1 for sure. All those years in their prime enjoyed and no regret. That's what I'm about.

#2. I worked in an alzheimer's unit when I was younger. It's one of my biggest fears now.

LTM said...

can you believe I've seen neither of these? But I'm thinking Letters to Juliet. I've always been more of a Redgrave than a Rowlands... :D <3

Vine said...

Definitely #2

This is really tough. They're both terribly romantic. I think #2 has a stronger appeal because it's a love rediscovered.
But what could be more romantic than a man that's stuck by you thru thick and thin for every year?? I'd say nbr 1.
